'87 240 seems to lose power briefly while driving? 200 87

Hello

our '87 240 wagon has developed a little issue. it seems to lose power while driving every once in awhile. 160 000 miles. it started a few weeks ago. you can drive 300 miles and nothing then 10 miles and it does it 3 times. it is an automatic and it feels like the power is gone. driving along and the engine seems to cut out - you dont have to restart or anything but it definitly pauses for a few seconds...

any ideas? electrical....

any help is appreciated
