I recently had my clutch replaced (first time at 232K), which of course meant the transmission and shift lever had to be removed and reinstalled.
Later when I had the car up on a lift to change the oil, I noticed I could see into the underside of my shift boot. (In other words, only the rubber boot separates the inside of the car from the pavement below.)
I know there was some kind of foam thing around the driveshaft ahead of the shift lever before, which is now gone. Is there anything else that's supposed to be there? (I have the M45 tranny -- 4-speed without overdrive.)
