TRUNK AUTO-LOCK ADJUSTMENT 900 1991

I have used the auto-lock function to open my trunk ever since I bought the car (unlock driver door and unlock all locks including the trunk, lock driver door and lock all doors including the trunk). My son used the key recently to open the trunk, now it won't auto-lock (I'm aware of the the different key operations that change the function of the trunk lock). I have removed the trunk latch-lock mechanism and everything seems to be functional including the operation of the electric solenoid. Does anyone out there know how to adjust the key-lock to latch actuating-rod or popssibly have had the same problem and can explain the symtoms and solution? I can't seem to find clear instructions on the adjustment or what to look for.
