I think my belt driven cooling fan is not doing its job. Moving the fan when the engine is cool seems to feel about the same as when it is hot, very slight resistance. In fact, after driving it, I am able to sort of "spin" the fan a quarter of a rotation freely (hot). So from reading the other posts, could anyone confirm that I need to replace the fan assembly?
Also, I noticed that while I'm driving, engine temp is approximately in the center, sometimes a little above or below. However, if I'm idling the engine at a long stoplight, or waiting to pick up someone, the temp climbs up to greater than 3/4. Then, once I am going again, the temp will come back down.
Also, I had a Volvo mechanic look at it few weeks ago and he said the AC pressure switch needs replacing. Apparently, they are on national back order from Sweden, so I am still waiting for the proper one. But I think the problem I discribed above is really independant of the bad AC pressure switch. I think not having a functioning AC pressure switch just does not allow the electric fan to come on when the engine temp gets really high.
Thanks,
Tom
