Just changed a kickdown cable-easy. 200 1978

Had to renew the exhaust pipes on the 245 Kidmobile so I thought I would

change the kickdown cable on the AW51. The original cable cover had parted from the plastic bushing at the tranny and fluid wept constantly.

Cost was $37 for cable, $7 for tranny gasket. Did the job with 1 Rhino Ramp under the right front wheel, out in the street with cardboard on the pavement to catch drips and protect my complexion.

Having the pipe off certainly helped, as did removing one of the tranny cooler pipes.

Junior and I reassembled the whole mess and the new exhaust stuff in a few hours of balmy outdoor work this afternoon. Showered and pedalled off for some overime at the hospital.

CAVEAT: The cable seemed an inch too long. I used part of the old cable adjuster end as an extender. Trimmed it to length with the abrasive Dremel cutoff wheel and scored a slot in the metal to allow the cable to get inside. Sliced throught the old adjuster nuts to fit them over the new cable as well.
