Could the rattle in my front end be the brake pads? 900 1993

I notice that the annoying rattling noises that come from my front right wheel when hitting the little bumps does not happen under braking. Are there retaining springs / clips that hold the pads into the calipers? Could it be that whomever did the last brake job forgot to install retaining springs, which now rattle loosely? I also notice that after I'm on the brakes a bit, I get a single clunk that must be the pads shifting as the pressure comes off slightly.

Any thoughts?

Al
