Carburettors on a 144 140-160 1968

I've just bought a 144 rally car that had done the 1998 Shield of Africa rally. It had been built pretty well for the event - FIA cage, bladder tank etc etc - but its hard life is certainly evident. Lots of fun work ahead of me. However some nice person has stolen the carbs (and a few other bits and pieces).

I need to be able to drive it to where I want to work on it. I have a good set of strombergs, and several sets of very ordinary SUs. Question: will the strombergs fit on the alloy SU manifold that is still on the car, or will I have to fit SUs to it, or use the stromberg manifold? I'm not being too lazy to just try and see - all the carbs are about 200km away, and I don't want to bring back a boot full of carbs, manifolds and aircleaners if I can avoid it. Eventually the car will get refurbed SUs, but for now I just want to be able to move it.

Supplementary Q: I have often read on the bb about separating the one piece manifolds so as to just use the exhaust section. Can they be separated so as to just use the inlet section? How do you do it? Hacksaw, cold chisel, gas axe or whatever?

Thanks

John
