This is what I get for not doing work my damn self... took the car to a tranny place to have them put in my new torque converter and do all the usual preventative maintenance while they had it out, to include the rear main seal, pump seal, pump bushing, tailshaft bushing, pan gasket, etc etc etc. In the process, the Joe that was wrenching on my car obviously had to remove the driveshaft/flexplate/whatever-the-thing's-called-with-the-ring-gear-around-it. My car has a crank position sensor, so there is that metal ring around it with the holes that the sensor reads through. Somehow, this dude failed to mark the flywheel before removal, so there was about a 1 in 6 (or 1 in 8, depending on number of bolts that hold it on) chance that he'd put it back on the right way. First time out, it wouldn't start at all, just backfire a lot. Oh by the way, him repeatedly trying to start it like that cracked my starter housing... that's just swell. I double and triple rechecked EVERYTHING under the hood just to make sure I hadn't done something wrong during recent mods, although it ran fine when I brought it in. When he re-oriented the flywheel again today, it started but still ran rough and missed a lot, although it's at least driveable over very short distances. I'm going to bring it back in on Monday to have him fix it for good, but is there any indication of the proper orientation so he doesn't have to try EVERY possible position?
