different oil pump springs 120-130 1967

As part of my rebuild, I planned to upgrade the oil pump, spring and reinforcing ring. After purchasing the spring and ring from IPD, I came across a new volvo pump for $60. Figured I'd put the spring and ring in that pump. When it came time to install, it appeared that the new pump has a slanted pickup (for later B20 and B21?) Anyway it didn't fit inside my B20E oil pan. So then I was back to using my original pump, but lo and behold! the spring in my original pump is almost 3/8" in diameter. The IPD spring is 1/4" in diameter, so I can't use it in my original pump. The person I got the new pump from says to use the new pump and my old pickup, which I would do, but it means that the new spring (skinnier) would be sitting in a wider recess in the pickup (bottom) part of my original pump. Any problem with this? Bad idea?

Otherwise I need either a new pump complete or a pickup from a later pump with the recess for smaller diameter spring, or to use my original pump and forget the stronger spring. Opinions please.
