Hello!
I'm the third owner of an 86 745 m46 na in great condition, except for a few oddities.
First, when I want to lock the car, i can't lock it before shutting the driver's door. So, I either have to shut the door, and use my key to lock it from the outside; or I have to shut the door, and open the passenger door behind the driver, and reach around to the front door and lock the car. What causes this? It's awfully wierd, and it's been this way as long as I've had the car. Pushing down the door open sensor doesn't seem to help either.
Second, some of the power windows seem to be struggling to go up and down. One in particular is a little slow towards the full open position. Is this a problem that is related to needed lubrication, or can i simply expect to have to replace the motor?
Third, my antannae is a little finicky. I read some suggestions in the faq, but how do i clean the grease out of the black main assembly? I've seen it with the panels off, but is it worth dissassembly?
Also, can i check for a blow head gasket without the tools mentioned in the faq? I'm wondering cause my volvo is spewy small to large clouds of black smoke when I just start it up and try to get going right away. It'll bog down and puff smoke. It also puffs smoke while revving it a bunch. There is some black soot at the end of my tail pipe too (aftermarket that has a place for soot to collect.) Finally, when my friend stands behind it and i start it cold, some gas liquid will spray onto his hand. This also occurs when I rev it up and he has his hand there. All this leads me to believe too much fuel. One day i had a rapid lose of coolant when a radiator hose broke, so the temp was all the way in red why i noticed it (i stopped on a dime). So, i wanna check for blown head gasket- but my manuals say how to change it, not how to diagnose.
Thanks,
Nathan
