SU "oil" consumption. 120-130 67

I just took my 122 on a 800 mile trip down to Naples, FL and back...drove most of the way at 5k rpm (bought earplugs).

Only two problems...

1) oil started coming out the front main seal (it's the new style...)

2) went through a LOT of ATF in my SUs. had to fill them up (rear carb more than the front) when I got down and then when I got back. I thought that was a "once every 3000 mile thing" not once every 300 miles.

What causes this consumption? Is it the fact that I was doing so much highway stuff at high RPM...am I asking too much?
