Ignition harness, ICU /Bentley?????? 200 83

Dear Brickboard.

Can it be true that the complete wiring harness MUST be replaced if disconnected, that's what Bentley's says on Pg. 280-3.

Also, from Bentley's never let spark gap exceed 5MM or the control unit may be damaged. ????????????

I have very little Volvo experience, but have been taking care of my own repairs for over 30 years on many makes and models, but do not understand the above. HELP PLEASE

History; C­rrent problems, bad engine harness and either the ICU or the Hall effect sender----- OR?????????

I was given this car, after the previous owners spent a huge? amount on repairs only to have it fail again and again.

It appears to have literally thousands?? of dollars in new parts under the hood, AMM, wiper motor assy, re-man dist, new alternator, new intake plumbing, hoses,belts etc.
