Rear window heater on 245 hatch 200 82

The heater in the hatch window doesn't work, even though the switch on the dashboard lights up when I turn it on. I suspect this is because the wires inside the left (driver's side) hatch hinge are broken. Does anybody have any advice for fixing this?
