Price for a '86 240 with 168,000 miles 200 1986

I am looking to buy my son a good safe first car. I have found this 86 240 DL with 168K on it. Body is perfect except for one small piece moulding missing. Interior cloth is very good. Supposedly the dealers granddaughter had the car and just left it when he bought her a new one.

They are going to replace the catalytic converter and anything else obvious. Tires are almost new all around. They are asking $3,500. I live about 100 miles north of New York City. Is this a decent price?
