OD solenoid question 200 86

I'm wanting to replace the OD solenoid in my kid's 86 244. I believe it to be the cause of multiple burned out relays. Is the solenoid from an 86 manual tranny compatable with the auto tranny in my kid's car. The only 86 (or newer) in the self-serve boneyard is a manual. From the Haynes manual description, they would appear to be the same. I could be wrong, so what's new?
