Speedometer & odometer: intermittant failure 900 1992

940 Turbo, 100k. The engine quit running and I had to have it towed to the Volvo dealer for repair. Urethane foam in the intake had disintegrated and gummed up the intake air metering parts, which they simply cleaned out. Since it was about 100k, I went ahead and let the dealer change the timing belt and perform routine service.

Upon leaving the dealer, the speedometer quit working once I hit about 50mph. It would start working once the speed dropped. I immediately returned to the dealer, where they diagnosed it as a probable instrument cluster circuit board problem. They said this is a common problem, then said they have a local repair service that will fix these for about $600. Only the speedometer, odometer and cruise control quit, the tach, clock and idiot lights all seem fine.

I have done nothing about it for a month or so, and observed that it seems to work fine when the weather is dry, but quits in rain or high humidity conditions.

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has repaired electronic speedometer/odometer problems. Thanks.
