Oily residue on tail gate 700 86

I just returned from a 500 mile trip. the car ran great. when I got home I noticed an oily residue all over the tail gate rear window and the rear bumper. The tail pipe is dry well soooty but not oily. The car is a 745 Turbo, any ideas.
