Hi all: I have a 1993, 240 wagon,
B230F engine, auto-transmission, 140,000 miles.
On a daily basis, after the car has warmed
up (10 + miles) the "Oil Pressure"
light on the dash will come on for about
a 1/2 second. This occurs typically
when you have just come to a stop.
Today the light came on for about 10 seconds
while driving. I have done a number
of things so far. They are:
a. All ground connections
where cleaned and dialectric grease used.
(All
means the 12 or so around the entire vehicle)
b. Installed new oil pressure
switch/sensor at the block.
(the
old switch only had 14,000 miles on it)
c. Disconnected the connector
to the oil pressure switch and connected my
own
external light to the switch to rule out and bad wiring within the harnesses.
Problem
still occurs.
d. Did an oil change and filter
about 3 weeks ago, but problem was there before the oil change.
e. Flame trap and PVC nipple
are clear (checked and cleaned during oil change)
f. Engine oil level is fine.
I'm stumped. Based on the above I'm
assuming that I'm actually having low oil pressure.
Which I find highly unusual on this engine.
Oil changes have been every 3,000 - 5,000 miles.
My next step is to take the oil pressure
switch/sensor out and put an
oil pressure gauge on the engine an watch
it.
The one odd thing I notice in the last
day or two, my slow engine oil leak
from the rear of the engine (probably
a bad rear crank seal) which is maybe
5 - 10 drops per day, has seemed to stop
leaking. I attribute this to 40 - 60
degree weather we are having here in Michigan.
QUESTION?
1. What is going on here?
2. Could high crankcase pressure
cause this? (there would be different symptoms).
3. No crankcase pressure? (I don't
know how this would happen)
Any assistance
or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks ... Mr. Tool (Two 1987
