Cool-Warm settings now Hot-Blazing 200 1979

My mechanic just replaced the heater control valve in my 242dl with an updated kit, and now the cool setting blows very hot air and the warm setting is unbearable. The shop says the valve is functioning properly. Any suggestions? Thanks.
