Here's a odd progblem with my starter that is intermittent (goes away for weeks and even months then comes back) or I would be thinking damaged fly-wheel gear, i.e., missing tooth or something. It started roughly (I think) when I replaced my starter with a remanufactured one about 9 months ago. Iy might have started a month or so after that actually as best I can recall.
Here's the sympton: Every 3rd or 4th time I start it when cold (never when hot), the starter turns then jams to a complete stop with a loud crack sound. If I release the key from the start position and try again it starts right up. If I keep the key in the start position it "drives" right thru whatever it is and starts turning again and starts right up.
I'm going to pull the starter and inspect the flywheel and pinion and see if I can see anything. I'm thinking it might be a bad rebuild and pinion is somehow sliping off the flywheel gear. Heck I'm getting anoyed enough to try to dig out that reciept for the starter and see if I can talk the parts store into exchanging for a new one but I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Robb
