Love is too strong a word; nonetheless, I am devoted to my gorgeous 1987 740 turbo....however, I am have a very very scary problem with my car at present: The engine dies--battery indicator lights up--at any speed.
This is terrifying when I'm risking my life just navigating the Texas freeway system. There is no pattern. Problem began last summer. I will incur a spate of engine cutouts for a couple of days and then go for a month with perfect performance. My mechanic told me he could spend tons of my money looking for the problem because there are so many possibilities. He did replace the fuel injector relay---no luck there.
I am able to immediately re-start the engine by shifting into neutral then back to Drive. When this happens at night and I'm traveling 70mph it is
hair-raising!
If anyone out there could give me some advise--perhaps point out the most likely problem-- I would deeply appreciate it.
This is my first time on this site. I'm pleased to meet you all.
Thanks
Kay
