Grease Cap Troubles 140-160 72

I cannot seem to get the grease cap back on after re-packing the front bearings. I did exactly what the manual(s) described. It seems as though air is trapped under the cap, acting like a cushion to keep the cap from pressing down. Thought it would tap back on, but no sir. Any help?
