What does the O2 do in K-Jetronic system? 200

This is the system I have and the Haynes doesn't tell me what it does, it shows it connected to the frequency valve via a control module. So what does the O2 sensor do? Actually I guess I need to know what the frequency valve does, or how the two work together.

Thanks as always, I can't believe you guys work on the post '83 stuff, K-jet is already too much for me. Ah how I love the smell of raw gas spilling out of my SUs in the morning!
