I have an 84 station wagon, diesel and just moved from VA. to CO. I live in the hills at altitude. Since the weather has turned (cold), I have had a heck of a time starting my ride. I have to let it crank and crank before she will finally turn over. Prior this, when I was in VA I never had a problem even in the dead of winter.

I have bought a heating element to go in the block and will have that installed Monday. I don't have any tools with me so I had to relinquish my car to a shop. Prior, I had a gas 240, but I know very little about diesels. Is there an oxygen sensor on a diesel I need to be aware of? I am sure the thin air is a big part of this problem. I also just read a posted e-mail about additives, but there was still question as to what kind of additive to put in the tank during summer and winter. What should be done so my diesel will perform at altitude?

Once the car fires-up she runs fine for the rest of the day, unless it sits for over eight hours then it's back to the same song and dance.
