Re-torquing head bolts 700 87

I just replaced my head gasket and am having difficulty torquing the head bolts per the spec in my Haynes manual without applying what seems to be an insane level of force. Instead I am considering warming up the engine and re-torquing the bolts. I think this is spec'ed for some years/engines, but I'm not sure.

Do I do this one bolt at a time or loosen them all and re-tighten? Any other thoughts on how to do this right?

Thanks.
