Volvos & grad students 200 1990

Lately, I've been noticing that a lot of graduate students in colleges/universities drive very old Volvos that are in need of a lot of TLC. I'm betting that these students/TAs have very limited funds to maintain these beasts (especially up here in northern VT). What is your take on all this?
