Guys- i seem to have the one volvo (86 764 ti) that has any problem that you could imagine. It is in great outside condition and the interior is excellent (both are what you would call pristine, except for small amounts of rusts on the door corners).
My mom had the car for about 7+ years, and now gave it to my brother and I (turned 140,000 mi just yesterday) for our last year in high school. It is a great car except for all the problems...
Now I don't want to come across as spoiled or flaming or anything, but please just read this:
-engine sometimes stalls at idle, when shifting gears (P to R or D), or when stopping at stoplights
-when the gears shift (AUTO) i feel very harsh engagement in the 1-2 shift
-my heater core just went, so i have no heat (save myself $240 parts, $600 labor) coolant spilled inside car, the coolant lines were joined together at the firewall
-my A/C does not work for some reason (it was charged and worked for 1 week, then just blew hot air)
-sometimes blue smoke comes out the exhaust, sometimes it doesn't (just replaced oil separator)
-very rough, missing at idle and just off it
-my tranny sounded like it was 'clickety - clacketing', now it seems that my torque converter is bad- my auto tranny refuses to shift even at high rpm, then when i accelerate, it might shift
-my Power stage went bad and i couldn't start the car (drove me CRAZY!)
-both fuel pumps were replaced (i dont know if i was ripped off by the dealer or not)
-i am leaking major oil
We really love this car. As a gift, it's not like i can just sell it..
I wonder if you guys could give me your advice on what to do with this wonderful (on the outside) car, a great piece of swedish engineering. I would honestly pay $8 grand for a car like this, w/o all my problems :)
PS-my friend got an 85 764 ti for $1000, interior is bad, engine has 180k, many things dont work on it....but it starts every morning.
