Shift indicator light flickered then died 700 1991

The console shift indicator (PRNDL) light went out, then later came back on, then finally went out for good. That's why I doubt it is a bulb ((Where is the bulb anyway if Need to replace it?) Anyone got any ideas about how to fix this? Hat to guess what gear I am in at night.
