speedo 700 1990

i have an 1990 740gle 16 valve with abs, it has been recently in an accident and the speedo stopped working. the accident damaged the axle and the rear right side, i replaced the alxe with an axle form an 1987 740 without abs, when i compared it they were the same. the speedo does not work , all the wires seem to be ok and the semsor works. what does the speedo sensor connect to. what can cause the speedo not to work??
