1987 vs. 1989 700 1987

I've owned the 1989 740GL for 6 years and recently acquired the 1987 (GLE). Both are sedans. The '89 has 166k miles and the '87 has 181k. The '87 is very sluggish accelerating when cold and sometimes stalls when starting. Should they be similar in this respect or is this common in the '87?. I've had the 185K service done and also the hall switch replaced (major stalling!). Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
