Steering shaft angle? 140-160 73

Okay, this is an oddball one, but I'll take a shot that somebody has an answer to this one...

The current project involves fitting a complete dashboard from an '80 242GT into a '73 142E. Don't ask, and don't try this at home unless you have LOTS of free time.

The current issue: It seems that the steering column on a 200 comes through the firewall at a slightly different angle than on a 140. No real surprise there.

I've gotten everything to line up okay, but I'm concerned that if the shaft comes out of the steering box at an improper angle there will be undue sterss on the bearings within the box.

However, I'm only talking about a few degrees on both axes. And some of that slop is make up in the section of the column that collapses in case of an accident.

Anybody see any major problems in moving the coulum around a couple of degrees?

Evan
