strut housing threads 48mm x 1.0 700 88

I went to replace the struts in my 740 wagon and the drivers side nut stripped out that holds the strut in the housing. I probably over tighten it. is there a tool to clean out the threads without having to buying a 100.00+ tap or replacing the strut housing the threads seem to be ok but just need cleaned out.
