Very weird noise occurred tonight.

B21FT. K-jet,5 psi max boost (til tuned more)

Conditions: raining, about 45 degress, 8:45pm, oil and water warm and within spec.

After coming out of boost and almost coasting there was a loud popping sound. One which I have not heard before. It was very disconcerting.

Lasted for about 5 seconds. Did not seem to affect power.

I would assume that it is engine related, since I got into boost again then tried to reproduce it and it took some doing to reproduce.

But it did it once again when I was just coasting/holding about 50 mph and 12 in vacuum. This was about 1/4-1/2 mile after the second boost run to reproduce the symptoms.

Ping is never loud is it? or sound like a timed popping? I have heard it is more like paint can rattling.

I guess this noise could be suspension related since

a)I have a steering wheel shimmy under normal driving

b) it clunks when going forward or reverse and wheels is almost turned lock to lock IE parking lot

The bushings are new according to PO.

I am hoping that the noise is associated with the suspension related problem, but I really have no idea.

I am going to be replacing the fuel injectors soon.

My ideas are as follows:

backfire, very hope not

ping, very hope not

suspension, associated problem. Seems odd it would occur right after boost.

cat heatshield banging on something, odd it would only occur after that time.

exhaust smacking body, somewhat likely as turbo would make engine rock more towards passenger side and then shifting woudl shift it back fast.

I hope to be checking plugs tomorrow to be sure of it.

any ideas always appreciated.
