Hello Everyone,
My car which made just 1820 mile trip from its old home, Newburgh, NY, to its new home, Houston, TX, no longer starts.
Upon its arrival home, I changed the oil and oil filter and parked the car under the carport. Several days later, I tried to start the car & take her for a drive. She did not start. No starter click, no interior lights came on, dashboard lights did not come on, and headlights did not come on. I open the hood and saw that the Interstate battery was over six years old. I took out the battery and went to the part store to get it tested. Parts people hooked up the battery and stated it was too low in voltage to even test and had to be charged first and then tested. I said never mind, since the battery already exceeded it life warranty life span of 5 years.
I bought a new battery and put in the car. When i was turning the keys some of the dashboard warning lights came on, as they should, but it was not very bright and the car did not start. I check the interior dome light and sometimes they were bright and sometimes they were dim. I tried the headlight and they did not come on. It was getting too dark to do anything else last night and so I started reading FAQ for 700/900. Some of them instructed me to check the ignition switch. Others stated to check for spark. Others stated to hook a live wire directly to the starter.
I will take the new battery out and get it inspected first. (Even new battery can be bad.) I know, I used to work for Western Auto and Autozone. If the battery is good, I will reinstall it and start my diagnostic testing. What would you all do in my place? I will read the FAQ again tonight, but in the meantime any and all advice is requested and appreciated. This "opportunity" to work on one car/volvo must of happen to one of you all before. Once again, I thank you in advance for your good advice.
PS. Patientily wanting on tune up parts to come in.
