How Robust is Auto Tranny on 88 240? 200 1988

Thanks for all the info regarding parts interchanging with my 86 240 DL sedan. I've located an 88 with 179k and an automatic. I was kind of hoping for a manual but am open minded. What kind of life span do the automatics have (assuming it has not been treated like dirt), and roughly how much does a rebuild cost?
