My 1987 240 DL With b230F engine died. Trying different things, I replace the coil with a cheapo. Turns out it did now have an internal resistor in the coil. Burned out everything. Two thousand bucks worth of new harnesses and computers.

The autoparts store says it doesn't need an internal resistor and that they are not at fault. My dealer says it does. I need some foto copies of andy Shop Manual pages which would help me prove my case to the Parts store.

They are also claiming that the wiring harness has an external resistor in the harness somewhere. Can anyone help me on this? I need to know which Manuals cover it enough to explain the need for a resistor built into the coil. My dealer hasn't responded to my request yet and I'm getting anxious.

Has anyone else ever had this experience?? I'm not normally this dumb, just want to know if I am the only one ever who did this?

My B230F now has 212,000 miles and is doing ok.

Does have rattling noises in the front end , Whats that? Ive read the archives and see hints but nothing conclusive. I,ll quit now and hope for help on the Coil problem.
