Blower fan noise - not again 200 1984

I've read the post and tried the archives, but, what actually is the noise, where does it come from in the motor / fan, and why does the motor stall? Cann't see bearing fault causing the motor to stall. Do the blades hit the body? Can a visual inspection in a breakers determine a useable one? Don't want to buy a new one at UK prices, more than the car is worth (could probably buy a later model 740 for the same price!). Do I have to face another wet Winter without a de-mist?
