Hello to all,
I'm new to this list as I've just bought my first Volvo. The ID plate states it as a 245 E1 Automatic and the tailgate has a DL glue-on on it. Florida MVR claims it's a 240 and that no 245's are DL models. I'm going by what's on the car...
Now here's my problem and I'm hoping someone will take the time to help;
I started off working on cars by buying (in my youth!) a '76 MG Midget and learned the hard way to keep a car on the road. My last clunker was a simmilar effort being a '71 VW TIII Squareback with (origional) Bosch Feul injection. Now that I look at this Volvo I think it's a happy coincidence that I now own a car with a larger/simmilar-to MG style motor with almost the same Ignition and Electronics as my VeeDub.
So the parts and placement are familiar to me and I'm thinking Diagnostics will be familliar also, but I'm making sure I'm right by asking some experts, you guys... I hope.
The engine only has a minor oil leak in the front housing somewhere (I think it's at the Water pump) and no other visible problems (Wiring harness is sealed well, Injecter ports are clean, Belts are tense, etc..) Sorry.. Let me cut to the chase..
When it turns over cold it will idle ROUGH, revving high then slowing to a stop. After a few times of this and slightly warming the Engine it will idle High then Low, High/Low, High /Low, and if put in Drive it will lurch under the revving incongruity althought the gas pedal is stationary. After warming up it will continue this mildly but drives steadyily not stalling at lights or anything. I've never run into a problem like this and was thinking it might be in an emmissions sensor or or some other sensor on the system. Anyone have this happen with the same system I have? Is this a common and easilly remdiable situation OR did I buy a lemon?
Please help with any suggestions.
Much thanx
THETA
