Is a Group Size 47 'Vented' Battery my only option? 200 1990

The current Battery I have in my car is an Exide, Group Size 47, with two top Vents for a hose. The only thing good about the battery is that it has a notch in it at the base that gives it a custom fit on the fiberglass battery tray. But the electrolyte level drops too rapidly. The hydrometer reading is 25% in two cells and the other four are 0%. Ironically the battery is still starting the car. Must be those two 25% cells keeping it alive. Anyway, I need a new battery and was hoping to get something better than the Exide if possible, and without those vents at the top that require a hose on the battery. Is anything else available that will fit this 240? Does the group size 47 mean only that will fit. Is the bottom notched part with the removable holder-downer-thingy something the car has to have. If not what are my options.

Btw, the alternator drivebelt is properly tensioned. I also have a KD tools current tester (square box shaped tool), but I am unable to place it on the large red Alternator wire to get a reading (not enough room to get the tester in there). The large red wire is the right wire to test, isn't it?

And I can't use my DVOM because the DC amp-current reading does not go over 10 amps.

Any suggestions?

Thanks -- Bruce
