Removal of M46 Transmission 200 1983

Hey All-
I'm in the process of removing the M46 transmission from an '83 242. This car is a junker that I'm donating the tranny to a friend for his newly-aquired 245T. We've removed the bellhousing-to-block bolts and the driveshaft, and have yet to remove the shifter (oops). I've done this once before but can't remember how we got the transmission to release from the block. Any suggestions?
