odometer not working 200 1988

I just bought a 1988 240DL that has a failed odometer. The speedometer works but the mileage doesn't add up on the meter. The reset buttom is also missing. Has anyone out there had any experience with fixing this problem?

Since I will be using this car for highway driving I'm also wondering if Vovlo cruise contro can be added without out pain-staking effort.
