I'm not going to cry. I swear.
My brick is dead. The drive shaft and frame in the backside of the car is completely rusted through. The drive shaft busted today and my mechanic said it would do me no good to fix it as the whole thing is about to collapse. He said there was no real way for him to repair it. I feel ridiculous for apparently buying it already in a condition which led to this, and now it seems I must part with my brick.
Here's my question:
What should do as far as salvaging this car?
It's a 1986 240DL Wagon. The body is in fine shape as is the interior. The engine is great with about 188,000 on it. I just fixed the doors (thanks to all your help on this board), it has an automatic tranny, and the original stereo (still working). The AC is shot, and the blower bearing is acting up, but besides the skeletal problems, it's fine.
The mechanic said he wouldn't dare drive it anywhere.
Thanks for any help during my grieving period.
