Noisy Power Steering Pump 700 1985

Brickers:

My power steering pump has gotten a little loud lately, and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea what it might be. The noise basically sounds like the traditional belt squeal, but a little bit nastier and more pronounced. It also seems to be coming from inside the pump and not from the belt.

A few weeks ago I did a coolant change. To eliminate the air pocket in the stat/top hose I filled it with the stat out, pulled the holder, and then reinserted teh stat. In the process I spilled a little bit of coolant on the power steering pump, and am wondering if this could have screwed it up.

Any ideas would be helpful. If the little bit of coolant I spilled in the PS pump is causing the issue, can I pull it apart and clean it? I know antifreeze is like silicone in its slickness, so is this the origin of the noise? I should also mention it is currently near 10f-20f where I am, so maybe the cold weather is making it more pronounced?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick
