I am currently driving a blu/grn 740GLE 1988 with 340,000km. This has been a good little car for me and the car is still running very well, in fact the only convenience item on board that could use a little work would be the AC.
My problem is this:
The car I am driving was never the one I “wanted” and I’ve never been a huge fan of the colour although I do like the black leather interior a lot more than the checkered interior in my old 740 turbo. I miss the turbo though and would like a car that is a bit more responsive than the GLE.
So do I stick with the car I have and try bringing it back to life with a fresh coat of paint this spring (black), replace the old lights and trim, fix the AC and start thinking about an engine swap. I know of a 740turbo engine 86’ in a wreck. If I do all of this upgrading what parts should I replace while the car is apart and what components of the car should I remain weary of?
Or –
Do I go shopping for another car and swap out the parts (Interior/Trim) I like from mine? Is the devil you know better than the one you don’t in this case?
Thanks for your advice!
