Hello all,
I have a sort of strange problem that hopefully someone can help with.
car: '90 245 (b230) 200,000mi M47 in CT
It seems that I have some pressure problems. I went to investigate an
oil leak the other day and discovered that the cam, front crank and rear
cam seals are leaking in addition to the oil filler cap gasket (which is new). The flame trap is definately fine, the hoses are clear, and I just (yesterday) removed the oil trap and cleaned it as well as possible. I also know that there is significant vacuum at the nipple on the intake manifold.
Now, when doing the jiggle test this morning, it worked perfectly -- for
awhile. About five or ten minutes into playing around (with the engine
running) I tried it again, and it jiggled like crazy. Because I have a
plastic cap and couldn't really tell how it was acting, I put the paper
towel I was using over the filler hole and watched. It was sucked in
and pushed out about 10-12 times per second. Putting a vacuum guage on
the intake manifold nipple showed (I guess) a similar thing. The needle
moved (*really* quickly) from side to side, although it kept vacuum the
whole time.
So what could be the problem? I know some have said that really worn
rings could be the culprit, but that seems strange. It wasn't doing
this when I bought it at ~175,000mi, and I changed to Mobil 1
immediately, although it has had the piston slap from day 1. The plugs
look perfect too. I know the valves should be adjusted -- would that
have anything to do with it? I'm a bit confused as to why it would be
ok when cold and worse when warm, too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the leaks seem to be getting
worse and this is our primary transportation :(.
thanks much!!
