brake light out, tried the obvious, now what? 200 1985

my left brake light went out on my '85 240 sedan. I bought a new bulb, opened up the panel. The old bulb didn't seem to be burnt out but I replaced it anyway. Still doesn't work. I've got one of those printed circuit board type deals, so I cleaned the connections with an eraser and put the bulb back in. Still nothing. So now what? Thanks!
