Front end clunk/rumble noise, any guesses? 700 1990

Hi all-

We recently purchased a '90 744Ti and are diggin it! I've still got an occasionall check engine light from the EGR system, which I haven't yet tracked
down.

There's another small (?) problem - a rumbly-clunk sort of noise from the left front tire area. It makes this noise going straight forward on semi-rough pavement. It sounds like a shock eye bushing, excepting of course the fact that them thar's struts up there. :-) (oh, the tires are hard-core 225/50R16 Dunlop SP8000's, so they're gonna make some noise of their own)

I checked the upper strut mount nut, and found it to be as tight as it would go, but there is still some visible give in the bushings there. Are they supposed to be like that?

I haven't yet jacked the front up to start banging away to recreate it. Can anyone offer likely culprits? At this point, my suspects are upper strut bushings, lower balljoint, tierod end, swaybar endlink bushings.

TIA for any suggestions!
