smoke or steam coming out of center vents?! 200 1984

Sorry abt the double post; I just wanted to make sure it went to the right group.

I just purchased an '84 245 TI that hasn't been operational for about two years.
The wagon was basically sitting in a dirt lot under various trees. It was turned over every month.

Can anybody tell me why an odorless smoke/steam could be coming in from the center vents? and how can I prevent this from happening again?

[I set the temp @ heat, & the fan is not on. It is also set on fresh air.]
