Well, last night I was driving home and my voltmeter went far left to 10, battery light came on etc.. So today, i put in a used alternator that was known to be good for $75, and a new battery, same problem! Anyone have any ideas as to what it can be? The light stays on and the voltmeter stays in the red area. Can't find my voltmeter but it obviously could be some sort of short (my rear fog light doesn't work if that helps?!)

I went out again, disconnected my aftermarket stereo amplifier power wire, the electric fan and another set of lights from the battery. When i rev the motor the light dims out so obviously the alternator is charging/working, i added another ground to the alternator fro mthe block, again no change. Should I suspect my rear fog as the consistent drain as when it is switched the fuse blows, I have disconnected the connector off the back of the switch so i wouldn't hit it. I *tried* to trace the rear fog light wiring a few weeks ago with no luck. I did however fix the horns by removing the air bag and fixing the ground behind it. If it is the fog then why did this battery light just come on last night? Someone mentioned that the red wire fro mthe alternator to the battery light on the dash when gone bad, wil lcause the alternator to not charge much? How is this possible that it won't allow the alternator to charge? thanks

Well, just out of the blue, the other regulators i had, i swapped in and
one seemed fairly new out of my old alternator that was new 2 years ago
and no change in anything, i will still try the new brushes but what *if*
that doesn't work and the red wire is ok as well? I start classes again
monday and really didn't need this to happen. I found a loose wire at
the starter, tightened it, and still no change. Gettin pissed ;-)
