Heater Question-plenty of heat, then cold, then heat again 700 1989

When I'm driving along down the highway, car fully warmed up, temp. gauge where it out to be, plenty of coolant, I have plenty of nice hot air coming from the vents. Every now and then, I'll suddenly get cold air for a second or two, then plenty of hot air again. Its done this for months. Any idea as to what's going on?
